LoRAWAN communication and Architecture FAQ

Article 2.0.1T : LoRA WAN communication queries

Q1 : Max no of meters that can be connected on one LORAWAN gateway
A1 : It depends on the frequency of data required. As thumb rule we can take for 30 minute data about 200 devices can be connected, provided it communicates only 10 parameters.

Q2 : LOS requirements of gateway and meter -
A2 : With external gateway it can be connected with 1KM without LOS

Q3 : In which software we can integrate LORA ? (different software / Elnet 5.3 / Elnet 7.0) ?
A3 : It made ready with ElNet 5.3.

Q4 : If radius of site is 4- 5 km. what is the max no of hopping possible ?
A4 : There is no mesh networking in LoRA. It works point to point.  It achieves the longer distance with ADR technology, so the number of parameters are limited. We can commit 4 to 5 kM only if there is LOS. Without LOS it will work for 1kM.

Q5 : Will there be any need for repeater ? as mesh network of meter and gateway will be there ?
A5 : Repeaters are not required. We need only gateway and network server

Q6 : Private Network server, max 2 or 3 gateways, this limitation is internal or technological ?
A6 : No, this limitation is due to Samtek. As you handle more GW, the price is higher. It is not proportiolnal. In embedded they allow only 4 GW to be connected. More than that it should go to network service provider.  Since we are making the local n/w it is limited

Q7 : For public n/w server, what is the approx. pricing model from TATA Communications ?
Tata communication charges based on the amount of packets we send. As thumb rule, for 100 messages (Max 50 bytes / Message) it will cost around Rs 40/- approx
